The Historical Society archives hold many collections of local family documents, photographs, school memorabilia, post cards, letters, newspapers, maps, records from Tarpon Springs area businesses, and other types of documents and records.  Our archives are available to researchers by appointment only. We invite you to review our rules and regulations on the use of our archives as shown below. If you would like to arrange an appoint to access our archives, please download both the acknowledgment and the research research application, complete and sign them, and mail or deliver them to the Museum.

Archive Rules and Regulations

Permission to Examine: permission to examine material will be granted to qualified researchers upon completion of the application form and the agreement to abide by the rules governing the use of manuscripts, documents, and photographs. Such permissions are granted subject to whatever restrictions may have been placed on the material by the museum staff, donors or depositors. Time and staff constraints do not permit us to do major research into any subject, but we will do our best and suggest other sources of contact when possible. All material will be pulled and photocopied by the archival staff and archival volunteers and they must also be present at all times while the researcher is examining the material.

Protection of the Material: A researcher is responsible for the safeguarding of any material made available in the Archives. Coats, briefcases, parcels, and personal books are not permitted in the research area. Please leave them in the office. No ink of any kind may be used in the research area; use pencils only. Smoking, eating and drinking are prohibited in the archives. All archival material must be handled carefully; use only one folder at a time and keep the papers in their existing order. Do not place books or volumes face down. Do not lean or press on archival materials. Do not trace maps or other records. No material in the Archives may be removed from the research area or the office area. Persons requesting access to restricted materials must contact the person or agency imposing the restrictions. The Archives cannot permit access to these materials without written authority. Researchers are advised that it is their responsibility, not the archives, to obtain copyright clearance to publish or otherwise reproduce or distribute archival material. Whenever possible, the archivist will provide the names and addresses of copyright holders.

Permission to Publish: Permission to examine materials is not an authorization to publish them. A separate written application for permission to publish must be made to the Tarpon Springs Area Historical Society. Researchers who plan eventual publication of their work should make inquiry concerning overall restrictions on publication before beginning their research. If permission to publish is granted, the location of the cited material shall be indicated in the

published work as follows: By permission of the Tarpon Springs Area Historical Society, Tarpon Springs, FL. Any web publication should also state: By permission of the Tarpon Springs Area Historical Society, Tarpon Springs, FL. Two free copies of all printed publications should be presented to the archive as soon as the work is published. The Society does not assume any responsibility for infringement of copyright in the material published or held by others.

Archive Services: Photocopies of materials in the Archive are provided as a service to expedite research and wear and tear on the documents, and are made solely for the personal use of the individual researcher requesting them. Staff or volunteers will do the photocopying. Photographs may not be transferred to another individual or organization, deposited at another institution, or replicated without prior permission of the Tarpon Springs Area Historical Society. In some

cases, the staff may refuse to make copies because of the physical condition of the material, the amount of staff time required to do the work, special restrictions imposed by the donor, copyright law, or, right to privacy statutes.
